To give a bit of background, I thought I’d write a short blog post about why I’m asking people to vote for me. Over the past 18 months I’ve been exploring the start-up world trying to find ways to take my idea forward.
My idea – Insulin PenPal is based on my experiences of using insulin pens for 12 years and an insulin pump for 3. I wanted to come up with a way of bringing some of the benefits of a pump to people who use pens without the cost. And I came up with the idea of a replacement pen cap which solves three problems I had using an insulin pen:
- Provides a subtle reminder when you need to give your injection so you don’t remember two hours later that you forgot that injection and your blood glucose is now 18.
- It helps you calculate your insulin dose. I love the bolus calculator on the pump and it makes my life a lot easier.
- Provides a reminder to let you know the last time that you gave an injection. We’ve all had that dread when you’re not sure if you gave that injection twenty minutes or not, and you’re stuck in a limbo.
And I hope the device will connect to a range of devices.
As a start-up, these small competitions are a great way to get support to take our device to the next stage. Please support us by clicking on the link below, voting for Adelie Health, and clicking submit at the bottom of the page
